Oh yes, you’ve read this right: it’s only three, and in numbers 3 simple, basic ingredients that make this gorgeously creamy, lush chocolate and hazelnuts spread that we all rave about. On top of it all, this version here, is much lighter and way more natural way to indulge in the glorious taste of hazelnuts and chocolate.
But I must also tell you something. Many years ago, when I first tried to made this spread at home, it failed. Miserably. I’ve tried several times after and each and every time I failed to get that smooth, silky, spreadable texture. So I gave up. Until I ran into some of the most gorgeous, organic hazelnuts that instantly brought me back to my childhood and the hazelnut tree that grew in my Nan’s backyard. Anyway, they looked and tasted so awesome that I dared to try to make the spread one more time and I am so happy I did.
So, before we go to the recipe, which is really the simplest you can imagine, the most important thing when making this spread is finding really good, organic, roasted hazelnuts. Because only these would turn into good enough, lush and creamy hazelnut butter that is essential for the spread.
The second very, very important thing is to be patient enough or to get yourself a processor that is strong enough to blend the hazelnuts into the butter. What you are looking for is a shiny, runny, oily and very smooth texture and it would take you anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes of blending, depending on the processor you use.
Because the rest of it is very, very simple, so let’s go to the recipe.
Ingredients you’ll need
- 350g organic, roasted hazelnuts
- 70g coconut sugar
- 2-3 tbsp of the best raw cocoa you can find
Let’s make it
First step is to blend the hazelnuts into a very creamy, runny butter as I’ve explained above. This is super important.
The second one is to separately blend the sugar into a powder.
And the third step, once your hazelnut butter is ready, blend in the sugar and the cocoa.
And that is it. So easy and so yummy.
Oh, and it can last for days if you keep it in a fridge and stay creamy and smooth.
