Sweet potato chips or a recipe for coziness

Do you have a favorite go-to dish for whenever you’re in need for some coziness? Sure! Don’t we all have that one that tastes like hugs, kisses and late night talks about the wonders of the Universe? These sweet potato chips are one of mine absolute cozy food favorites! Gorgeously crispy, fragrant and satisfying, it’s ready in a matter of minutes, and that is one thing I always appreciate in a dish. Besides, I have never really liked the taste of standard potato chips. Yeah, I know, I know, it’s not you, it’s me 🙂

The secret to crispiness is a nutritional yeast, a wonderful thing even if you’re not a vegan. Nutritional yeast also has a strong taste, somewhat like a Parmesan cheese so you don’t want to overdo it. It’s a magnificent addition to baking whenever you need to keep the ingredients dry or get that crunchy lasagna top crust. During cooking its tangy flavour becomes somewhat milder similarly to any hard cheese.

Now don’t confuse the nutritional yeast for a baking or brewers one, or even deactivated brewers yeast. Not the same. The nutritional yeast comes in flakes or granules and it’s one powerful ingredient, a complete protein, packed with vitamins B including the infamous B12 and antioxidants. It boosts your immunity, reduces cholesterol levels and is super yummy.

So let’s bake some sweet potato chips!

You’ll need about 25min and the following ingredients:

  • 2 big sweet potatoes
  • 2 tsp of nutritional yeast
  • 1.5 tsp of sweet paprika
  • 2 tsp of turmeric powder
  • a couple of branches of fresh rosemary
  • a couple of branches of fresh sage
  • salt
  • pepper
  • chili flakes to taste
  • olive oil

Give the potatoes a good wash, no need to peal them. Cut into fairly equal chunks and place on a tray layered with a baking sheet. Mix the salt, pepper, paprika, turmeric and nutritional yeast, and chili flakes if you’re adding it.

Drizzle with a bit of olive oil then sprinkle with a mix of dry spices and use your hands to make sure each potato is thoroughly covered. Now arrange the chips so they don’t touch in the tray. Place the fresh herbs on top and drizzle with some more olive oil, don’t overdo the oil just a tablespoon.

Bake in the preheated oven at 200C for some 15min and voila, your super quick, super delicious and super cozy meal is ready! Great when served with some fresh vegan tzatziki, burger or hummus.

Enjoy!
